10 Valentine’s Day Gifts Mums Really Want

I’m all for capitalising on a capitalist, commercial celebration if it means I’m getting gorgeous gifts I REALLY want out of it, thank you very much, so with this in mind, below is my inspiration giving gift list so you can treat yourself or forward onto your partner for Valentine’s or any damn day, because you deserve it!

Meadow Farm candles. Utterly divine and luxurious candles made from the most pure of oils, fragrances imported from France, and handmade in Yorkshire on Rachel’s farm no less (hence the name) these achingly beautiful candly truly last and last (and you can use the gorge glass jars to house make up brushes after) so it’s two presents in one.

In Wildflowers, Yorkshire bramble, Into the woods, Citrus mint & Herb garden scents, these candles will elevate your home and calm your mind. What’s more, Rachel has created a Valentine’s Day Wildflowers limited edition gift box with your name on it. You can also still buy my collaborative candle with Meadow Farm in refreshing Jasmine & Olive too to transport you to Greece!

Books and more books. Recent novels and non fiction books I’ve inhaled and highly recommend include:

The witty coming of age novel set against the ruthless world of banking in the Every Thing’s Fine by Cecilia Rabess.

The Correspondent by Virginia Evans is a epistolary format which reveals a witty 70 something woman who is as sharp as she is pained, as she comes to terms with her past, taking us on her heartbreaking journey via letters and emails, reminding us that life can be as beautiful as it is brutal.

Lessons in Chemistry is the life-affirming story of feminist STEM idol ahead of her time, Elizabeth Zott, set in sexist 60s, written by Bonnie Garmus who has sold over 8 million copies.

Another must-read is the stirring and empowering Mother Animal by Helen Jukes who normalises all aspects of motherhood, including the absurb relating our human experiences to animals. making us all feel less alone in the process.

I Shop Therefore I Am, a nostalgic memoir from the Ab Fab heydays of Harvey Nicks by Mary Portas is a joy to read: a creative force, this is a no holds bar reflection on her time window dressing whilst making British history.

Bag yourself unique pre-loved antique and vintage jewellery by Aladdin’s Cave in Leeds who ship worldwide for something utterly exquisite this year.  With prices to match all budgets from necklaces, bracelets, rings, brooches and more, join their mailing list for 10% off your first order and go lose yourself in their pieces made of gold, silver and precious gems. Read my review of this achingly beautiful Toi Et Moi ring here.

An online masterclass, of which there are many available to suit your interests makes for a super present.

I recommend BBC Maestro for those seeking a creative course that can fit around a busy schedule you can dip in and out of. Jojo Moyes’ no nonsense, plain speaking, comprehensive and utterly captivating creative writing course I did over Christmas is brilliant for budding novelists.

The finest chocolate. Montezuma, Rococo and Hotel Chocolate all have exquisite collections in all varieties and concoctions of chocolate either in boxes or small bags in which you can curate your own hamper if you so wish. I like mine dark and at least 70% cocoa please.

Hydro facials for the win.

Pick up a spa gift voucher for any many of relaxing treatment, and if in doubt, hydro facials tend to suit all skin types and will ensure the recipient leaves the salon or spa feeling like they have a brand new face. Failing that, some pretty at home facial tools and creams are a worthy second prize! Check out Face Gym for something extra special!

Theatre/ ballet/ opera tickets. Netflix is all well and good for slobbing out on the sofa but nothing beats a night out where you can become immersed in a performance in person. Check out local theatres or head to the West End and make a weekend of it! I recommend The Leeds Playhouse for those in Yorkshire.

Notebooks. I collect these with the same fervour in which I wrote diaries as a tween. Moleskin, Papier and Smythson are just a few premium brands that will make a splash.

Montblanc pens (make mine a fountain pen this year to add to my collection please). Iconic pens you can find on sites like Vinted but ensure you pay for authentification if you’re buying second-hand.

A food hamper from Fortnums, Betty’s, Fodders or Harrods spanning sweet, savoury or alcholic treats make for the perfect tasty and indulgent treat.
