As soon as autumn hits, decorating season begins here. If you’re feeling uninspired or you’re not sure where to start, you’ve come to the right place. Because in this blog post, we’re going to look at five ways that you can have a lot more fun decorating your home this autumn and winter season with a chance to brighten up the colder months adding some spice and all things nice to your home!
1. Start Early
First of all, you need to make sure that you get started early so you can make most of the season and all the sparkle you can add to your living space. The minute Halloween is over, I start to decorate for Christmas. First I start with Mid Ulster artificial Christmas trees adding some beautiful, bold and memorable decorations we’ve collected throughout the year and Christmas. These include homemade festive decorations made in Pottery shops and even gingerbread Christmas tree biscuit decorations you can find the recipe for here.
2. Bring in Light and Warmth
The next thing you need to do is make sure that you’re focusing on both light and warmth. Nothing says cosy more than fairy lights, dim lighting, and fragrant candles (I love my friend Rachel’s luxury candles: Meadow Farm). A flickering fire, candles, movie and a mulled wine is my kind of evening in!
3. Switch Out Your Textiles
Now it’s time to look at your textiles. We all have those comforting accessories around the home that we know and love. From cushions and throws to bedding and blankets, there are so many ways that you can add some autumnal and wintry touches to your home. Do you want to switch up your colour scheme or add more print and texture? Look for rugs, fluffy blankets, changing cushions and even art work to evolve your home with each season.
4. Choose a Fun Theme
My kids like to theme the seasons whether that’s collecting pumpkins and dotting them around the house or adding snow style scapes to the windows, adding a fun theme, especially where arts and crafts are involved is a great way to while away a weekend as a family. Check out some Christmas decoration themes for some inspiration.
5. Let the Kids go Wild
Try not to stress about the mess. Easier said than done I know but now is the time to let the kids have fun and get a little bit messier whether that’s letting them decorate the tree or baking together, let them get stuck in. Now’s the time to be making memories!
