How Sara Took Back Her Evenings (If you’re struggling with your habits, don’t skip this!)

Sara had a bad habit—every night after dinner, she’d sink into the couch, grab her phone, and scroll. Instagram, TikTok, news, back to Instagram—it was a never-ending cycle. She’d tell himself she’d just check a few things, but suddenly, an hour (or two) had passed.

One night, she looked up at the clock—10:30 PM. She had planned to read, maybe even go for a short walk, but instead, she’d spent the whole evening glued to her screen. She felt drained instead of relaxed. That’s when she decided something needed to change.

Sara set a goal: swap 30 minutes of evening scrolling for something more intentional. Here’s how she did it:

  1. She set a phone timer—after 20 minutes of social media, she got a reminder to stop.
  2. She charged her phone in a different room to avoid mindless scrolling before bed.
  3. She replaced screen time with a walk. Even 10 minutes outside helped her unwind.
  4. She picked up an actual book. If she was tempted to scroll, she grabbed the book instead.
  5. She gave herself a reward. If she stuck to her plan all week, she treated herself to an outing on Saturdays.

The first few nights were tough—her fingers itched to grab her phone. But as the days passed, something shifted. She started looking forward to her evening walks, her sleep improved, and she felt more present in her life.

A month later, she had cut her nightly screen time in half, felt more energized in the mornings, and had even finished two books.

Breaking her scrolling habit didn’t just help her use her time better—it made her nights feel more her own.

And to think… it all started with putting her phone in another room.
