Anyone who reads this blog will know that we’re long-time fans of Betty’s! I grew up in Ilkley, so lunches, dinners and afternoon teas were a treasured staple of my childhood, and we even celebrated my daughter, Florence’s early birth (which happened to be in Leeds when she was scheduled to be born near Windsor where we lived at the time), with a long family lunch in their Ilkley branch of tearooms, too. Now we live in equally pretty Harrogate so are making new memories with our own three children there, and it’s a joy to do so.
Betty’s is somewhere we as a family and even sometimes, as a couple, when we have the rare chance to convene child-free, dine for everything from celebrating a milestone to a quick bite of moorish cinnamon toast and cup of fragrant Earl Grey to escape the rain during a shopping trip in town. Betty’s never disappoints. Their afternoon tea is sublime and if you live too far to visit, you must check out their website for this gift here, and many others for a true taste of Yorkshire.
When I lived in London then Windsor for many years, far from Yorkshire after my Master’s and later, when my husband and I got married and had children, my close friends would often send me chocolate treats from Betty’s so I had a meaningful, nostalgic taste of home, wherever I was.
