It’s my book, Greek Myths, Folktales & Legends’ publication day today, and the incredible treasure trove Imagined Things Bookshop in Harrogate, gave my book a window display! What a treat!
I also made the front page of the award-winning paper The Yorkshire Post, ooh la la!
I’ve had the most fabulous, celebratory day. Roll on the Big Fat Greek Book Party on Saturday!
…So, welcome to the wonderful and often weird world of ancient Greece with my collection of 20 (hopefully) bewitching and memorable myths that will take you back in time, over 2500 years! 4000 primary school children have signed up to my schools’ virtual book tour zoom next week before a nationwide schools book tour with an assembly at each followed by either a Scholastic book fair or a book store supporting. Exciting times!
It’s been a year of intense research and writing for me and now it’s my book’s birthday, finally!
Huge thanks to those who’ve pre ordered, bought today and hope to buy, I’m so very grateful!
Thanks to Scholastic UK for being such a dreamy publisher. Bella, my brilliant, perceptive and supportive editor, who has been my companion for the past 12 months, as we roamed the ancient lands together hand in hand, and my ever wise, literary agent, Jo, at Bell Lomax Moreton for bringing this opportunity to me, in the first place. What a gift from the gods and goddesses it’s been!
I’ve relished retelling these 20 Greek myths for a modern audience of 8-12 year olds in a book that I hope, even their parents, carers and teachers might just struggle to put down, too! *Crosses fingers and toes!
Huge thanks too to gifted illustrator Paula Zorite who read my mind (and words) and brought my characters to life with her majestic art, and big love to my friend, Rachel, of utterly glorious, natural, handmade, luxury candle brand, Meadow Farm Lifestyle for the gorgeously uplifting and soothing Greek inspired jasmine and olive candle set, which I’ll be sharing more about, soon!
Publication day feels a little like having a baby. Gestation was similarly around 9 months (well a year), then your creation is out into the world, hopefully bringing joy to those who get to hold it in their hands and heart! It’s definitely as thrilling and as exhausting!
I hope if you read Greek Myths, that it takes you on an enchanting journey from the heady heights of Mount Olympus to the dark depths of Hades’ Underworld and beyond. My intention is that these legendary stories teach you not only of ancient Greece and the values and belief system of its pioneering people, my ancestors, but that you learn more about yourself and ultimately gain the strength and resilience of those extraordinary characters you will read about: the mortals, immortals, gods, goddesses and demi gods alike, in all their utter brilliance and bonkersness!
Now, let’s celebrate!
Florence and I are wearing exquisitely beautiful, bespoke hair pieces inspired by ancient Greece and the food and flora of the myths within my book (some of huge significance to the stories) by super talented, wedding hair accessories’ designer Claire Austin England.
We’ll be rocking them at my big book party tomorrow too!
Opa!
