Facebook reminded me it’s my blogiversary today. November 10th. 15 years!!! The frequency I post has changed from daily to twice weekly but I still adore this space, this virtual diary of mine where I can share whatever’s on my mind, and I’m grateful it continues to form a sizeable part of my income alongside my social media work.
What began as a medium in which to simply write without expectation, after a traumatic birth with my first son, Oliver, who is 16 in January, has grown into a platform that continues to hopefully help those who read it whether they stumble upon a post on juggling three children with work or a recipe for Greek spinach pie! I pivoted from a hard won career as a screenwriter and director into a content creator and it’s taught me so much.
It’s impossible to include all of the highlights these 15 years has brought and what a privilege it is to admit that: the press trips, family holidays, interviews with film stars and pop bands alike, cooking with culinary greats and simply being paid to write.
However, I’ve listed a few memorable milestones that have shaped me, below.
Writing two bestselling books, a non fiction book: Mumboss (Hachette UK) and a recent children’s book on Greek Myths (Scholastic UK). In depth research, a commitment to storytelling and of course publicising my work with book tours, events (many which brought me to tears) and press activity.
Speaking in Parliament about birth trauma, maternal rights and the online safety bill respectively.
Seeing parts of the world I’d not considered before such as breathtaking Bavaria.
Interviewing Kim Cattrall, Westlife and Jamie Oliver amongst others. A drawing masterclass with Oscar-winning director Brad Bird. Listening to Oprah Winfrey in person, speak about her career, “Let them underestimate you” was the key takeaway and what she attributed to her success and garnering huge shares with her debut talk show.
Working with brands I’ve always loved from supermarkets to beauty brands and beyond!
It goes without saying the friends I’ve made who’ve been there from day 1, literally-hello The British Gas Big Dip event (special mention to my blogging bestie and award-winning author Uju of Babes About Town).
The awards, the glam red carpet events, the regular TV appearances, podcasts and radio shows… The wish list has huge red ticks all over it and I’m amazed me every day of what is possible with hard work, a dedication to my craft and manifestation… The viral reels and TikToks that blow my mind because I found 200 followers hard to fathom when I first joined Twitter now X so will never fully grasp 48m watching a single video of mine! What a ride it’s been and continues to be.
So let’s see what might come next, I’m ready!
