Supplies You Need
To get started, gather the following:
What if you don’t want to use candy to play?

This game can be played many different ways! You can substitute:
- pom-poms
- dot stickers or any colored stickers you have on hand
- dot markers
- Mini buttons or beads
- Scraps of colored paper
- Play-Doh rolled into tiny balls
- or simply color in the dots with crayons, colored pencils, or markers!
If you’re not using candy, the finished eggs make adorable spring or Easter decorations for the fridge, wall, or classroom bulletin board.
How to Play Roll an Easter Egg
Here are the basics for how to play the game, then keep reading to the bottom for fun variations!

1. Give each player a Roll an Easter Egg game sheet and the items you’ll be using to fill in the egg.
2. Players take turns rolling one die.
3. Each number corresponds to a color on the Easter egg:
- 1 = Red
- 2 = Orange
- 3 = Yellow
- 4 = Green
- 5 = Blue
- 6 = Purple
Tip for candy play: If your candy mix doesn’t include every color, treat one color as a wild and let players choose any color they still need.
4. After rolling, players fill in one section of their Easter egg with the matching color.
5. The first player to color their entire Easter egg wins!
That’s it! Simple, quick, and full of giggles. Especially if someone keeps rolling the same number over and over!
How long does this game take? Each game takes about 10 minutes. Just long enough to keep kids entertained without losing their attention.
In our house, we love these roll-a-dice games. The real challenge is keeping the candy on the table! My kids (and husband) keep “accidentally” taste-testing their colors between turns!
We played a few rounds with candy (the speed round version described below is our favorite!). Then we played in reverse and ate our candy! Finally, we colored in our eggs with markers and hung them on the fridge.
Classroom Pro Tip: Turn this into a learning center by printing several copies and using Play-Doh balls or counters. Students roll, match colors, and build fine motor skills while playing.

Super Fun Game Variations to Try

The basic game can be spiced up with these fun twists. Try one of these:
- Speed Round: Everyone rolls at the same time to see who finishes first.
- Play in Reverse: Each player covers their entire Easter egg with candy. After each roll, they remove a piece of candy that corresponds with that roll. The first one to empty their Easter Egg, wins!
- Use it as a Number-matching Game: Fill in the circles with numbers and have the participants count the dots on the die and mark down the corresponding number as they roll.
- Group Game: Play in teams and race to see which group can color their rainbow first.
