President Donald Trump is sharing a significant update on the search for Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie‘s mother, Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing for nearly a week.
On Friday — marking day six of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance — Trump told reporters he had received new information on the case through federal law enforcement and the FBI.
“I think we’re doing very well in that regard. You’re probably surprised to hear that,” Trump said. “I think we’re doing very well, meaning we have some clues, I think that are very strong and I think we could have some answers coming up fairly soon.”
When asked whether the search for Nancy Guthrie would expand nationwide, Trump explained that he was focused on solving the case.
“I’m not talking about a search, I’m talking about a solution,” he said. “We have some things that I think that we’ll maybe come out reasonably soon from DOJ or FBI or whoever that could be definitive.”
Trump added, “A lot’s taken place in the last couple of hours. A lot of things have happened with regard to that horrible situation in the last couple of hours.”
Earlier in the week, Trump addressed the disappearance from the Oval Office, offering federal assistance in the case, and calling the situation “terrible.” He also noted that he “always got along very good with Savannah.”
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing in Arizona last weekend. On Monday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators believe she was likely taken against her will in a “possible kidnapping or abduction.”
However, Nanos remains hopeful that the 84-year-old is still alive. “We have nothing else to go on but the belief that she is here,” he said in an interview that aired on Today on Wednesday. “She’s present. She’s alive, and we want to save her.”
Nancy Guthrie is reported to have mobility issues and is without her daily medications, which could lead to life-threatening complications if not taken regularly.
During a Thursday press conference, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI said they still had no suspects or persons of interest in the case, but they did reveal that the blood found on the porch of Nancy Guthrie’s home had tested positive as her own. Officials also announced expanded search efforts, including a $50,000 reward for information on her whereabouts.
Following the news of her mother’s disappearance, Savannah Guthrie stepped away from covering the Winter Olympics. She and her siblings, Camron Guthrie and Annie Guthrie, also shared a video on social media addressing those who are suspected of abducting her mother, Nancy Guthrie, saying they “we’re ready to talk.”
