TVK 3rd Anniversary Speech By Vijay: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) marked its third anniversary on Sunday, February 2, with party founder and president Vijay addressing cadres at the party headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai. The event came at a crucial phase for the fledgling political outfit as Tamil Nadu prepares for the 2026 Assembly elections.

In his address to party workers, Vijay reiterated TVK’s intention to position itself as a direct challenger to the ruling party in the state. He accused the incumbent Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government of failing to live up to public expectations and said his party would question the administration without hesitation. Vijay said neither the existing ruling alliance led by the DMK nor the BJP-led front would be able to withstand a direct challenge from TVK, asserting that TVK alone had the capacity to emerge as an alternative political force.

Vijay’s Letter to Cadres

Hours ahead of his public address, Vijay released a letter addressed to party cadres, reflecting on Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s journey since its launch and its growth over the past two years. In the message, he said TVK had functioned as a people’s movement even before it began evolving into a major political force, stating that the party had remained closely connected with the public from the outset.

In the letter, Vijay described TVK as a resilient organisation that had progressed without losing balance or focus, portraying it as a political movement aimed at securing power for the benefit of ordinary people. He emphasised commitment to the party’s objectives and projected TVK as an organisation preparing for a larger role in governance.

Referring to the 2026 Assembly elections, Vijay said the electoral landscape had taken on a new character and suggested that this shift was linked to TVK’s entry into active politics. He called on party members to approach the coming elections with clarity and a coordinated strategy, urging them to work in unity to secure democratic legitimacy through the electoral process and to strive towards forming a government with broad public support.

Electoral Strategy and Party Preparations

The anniversary observance takes place amid continued speculation over TVK’s electoral strategy. Although Vijay has earlier spoken about the possibility of sharing power with ideologically aligned forces, no formal alliance has been announced so far. Discussions around candidate selection are also ongoing, with sources indicating that the process is nearing completion. There has been unconfirmed speculation that Vijay himself may contest from a Chennai constituency, though the party has not issued an official statement on this.

Organisationally, TVK has received a boost with the Election Commission allotting the ‘whistle’ symbol to the party, an important step as it prepares for its first major electoral test. At the same time, the anniversary comes against the backdrop of both political and personal challenges for Vijay. His final film, Jana Nayagan, slated for release earlier this year, is yet to receive certification from the Central Board of Film Certification, with the matter currently pending before the court.

On the political front, TVK’s campaign activities were affected last year following a tragic stampede at a rally in Karur, which resulted in 41 deaths. Vijay was questioned twice as part of the subsequent CBI probe, and the incident disrupted his proposed statewide tour.

As TVK enters its third year, the party is focused on organisational consolidation and preparations ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
