Oh Butterfly First Review: The upcoming mystery thriller Oh Butterfly, written and directed by Vijay Ranganathan in his debut directorial venture, is scheduled to release in theatres on March 6. Ahead of its theatrical release, a preview screening of the film was held, and film correspondent Rajasekar shared his initial response after watching it.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Rajasekar described the film as a “very niche” project that explores the psychological condition of its central character. According to his post, the story focuses on the mental state of the protagonist, played by Nivedhithaa Sathish, who is dealing with guilt and what he referred to as harm-related obsessive thoughts. The character isolates herself from the outside world because of past suffering.

Rajasekar noted that the film raises questions about whether the events in a person’s life are shaped by their own actions or if they are driven by fate. His comments suggest that the narrative unfolds as a tense drama centred on the protagonist’s internal struggles and the situation involving her husband and former lover.

In his post, Rajasekar also mentioned that the story places Nivedhithaa Sathish’s character in a difficult situation involving both her husband and her former lover. He highlighted her performance as the most striking aspect of the film, stating that the actor portrays the vulnerability of her character with conviction.

He further wrote that actors Ciby and Atul have performed their roles effectively. Veteran actor Nasser also appears in the film, and Rajasekar referred to a moment in the narrative where the character reflects on the brief life span of butterflies. According to his post, a key observation made by Geetha Kailasam’s character towards the climax of the film also adds an important dimension to the story.

Rajasekar concluded his reaction by suggesting that viewers who are interested in intriguing dramas with moral messages and strong performances might find the film engaging. He gave the film a rating of three out of five.

Oh Butterfly revolves around a woman who takes her partner to a secluded hill house to reveal a secret that could change their lives. However, unexpected incidents begin to unfold as past events resurface and begin to intersect with the present.

The film features Nivedhithaa Sathish, Ciby, Nasser, Lakshmipriyaa Chandramouli, Geetha Kailasam and Attul in important roles.

The project is backed by producers Vennky, Anand S Shah, Vijay Ranganathan and Nisha Patial under the Anthill Cinema banner, with Palampur Talkies serving as co-producers. Harish Rajagopal has contributed to the additional screenplay.

The technical crew includes cinematographer Vedaraman Sankaran and editor Bhuvanesh Manivannan, while the music for the film has been composed by Vaisakh Somanath. Saranya Ravichandran has handled the production design and Tina Rosario has designed the costumes.

With its theatrical release set for March 6, Oh Butterfly is preparing to arrive in cinemas following the early reactions shared after the preview screening.
