Thakkali Srinivasan Passes Away: Veteran Tamil filmmaker, producer and composer Thakkali Srinivasan passed away in Bengaluru on Tuesday, March 10, following health complications. The news of his death was confirmed by industry publicist Nikil Murukan. Srinivasan, who had been associated with several Tamil films across the 1980s and 1990s, was 72.

According to updates shared by Nikil Murukan on social media, Srinivasan passed away due to health complications in Bengaluru. His last rites are expected to take place in the city on Wednesday, March 11.

Thakkali Srinivasan’s Career Across Production, Direction And Music

Thakkali Srinivasan was known for taking on multiple roles in the film industry during his career, working as a producer, director, composer and occasionally an actor. He began his journey in Tamil cinema as a producer and went on to back a number of films that gained attention during their time. Among the projects he produced were Ivargal Varungala Thoongal (1987), Manasukul Mathappu (1988), Nalaya Manithan (1989), Adhisaya Manithan (1990), and Witness (1995).

Apart from production, Srinivasan also explored filmmaking as a director. One of his notable directorial works was the horror film Jenma Natchathiram (1991), for which he also composed the music. The film was an adaptation of the Hollywood classic The Omen (1976) and gained recognition among fans of the horror genre at the time.

Srinivasan also collaborated in music under the duo Premi-Srini, contributing to the soundtracks of films associated with their projects. His involvement in cinema extended to acting as well. He appeared as the antagonist in the 1988 film Soora Samharam, which starred Kamal Haasan in the lead role.

Later in his career, Srinivasan continued directing films. His final directorial release was the thriller Aduthathu (2011), which featured actors including Nassar, Sriman, Vaiyapuri, Aarthi, Ilavarasu, and Meenal in key roles. The film drew inspiration from Agatha Christie’s mystery novel And Then There Were None.

In his later years, Srinivasan gradually stepped away from active filmmaking. Reports said he focused on social initiatives and ran an ashram in Bengaluru. He was said to be living with adopted children during this period while dedicating time to charitable activities.

His passing marks the end of a career that spanned several decades across different aspects of filmmaking.
