Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner Deny Ray J Sex Tape Conspiracy

A long-simmering legal dispute over the 2007 sex tape that helped launch the Kardashian empire escalated sharply this week, with Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner filing sworn declarations flatly denying they orchestrated the tape’s release — and Ray J responding by accusing them of perjury.

In documents filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Kardashian called Ray J’s claim that she and her mother conspired to release the footage as a publicity stunt “a lie,” while Jenner described the allegation that she was in charge of its “commercial exploitation” as “absolutely false.” Jenner added that she was “heartbroken and devastated as a mother” when the tape became public.

Ray J, whose legal name is William Ray Norwood Jr., told TMZ the declarations were fabrications, claiming he personally sat in a room with Kardashian, Jenner, and executives from distributor Vivid Entertainment to negotiate a deal for three separate tapes. He further alleged that Jenner encouraged them to make one of the recordings “dirtier.” His attorney, Howard King, called the Kardashians sworn denials “demonstrably false” — and took a pointed shot at Kim’s well-publicized goal of passing the bar exam, warning that sworn false statements “could subject her to criminal perjury prosecution.”

The stakes seemed particularly raw for Ray J, who has been battling serious health issues and has said his doctors have given him months to live. He has said his motivation for the suits is his children — he doesn’t want them growing up believing their father maliciously leaked a sex tape.

The dispute stems from a defamation lawsuit Kardashian and Jenner filed against Ray J last October, after he publicly compared the family to racketeers during coverage of the Sean Combs trial. Ray J filed a countersuit alleging breach of a settlement agreement barring any party from discussing the tape. A ruling on his dismissal motion is expected soon.
