It’s the perfect icebreaker to kick off your pirate adventure.
2. Who Is Most Like A Pirate?

At the end, they’ll discover who earns the ultimate title of… MOST LIKE A PIRATE!

4. Walk The Plank Challenge

Create a “plank” using a long board, balance beam, tape line, or even a row of pillows.
Players must carefully walk across without “falling into the ocean.” To make it harder, have them balance a coin on their head or carry a small treasure.
Add Jaws movie music for dramatic effect.
5. Cannonball Toss
Split players into two teams and give each team a pile of “cannonballs” (paper balls, beanbags, or soft balls).
On “Go,” players throw as many cannonballs as they can into the opposing team’s ship (a box, bin, or marked area). When time is up, count the cannonballs.
The team with the most cannonballs in their ship “sinks” and faces a fun penalty like walking the plank!
6. Swab The Deck Race

Split players into teams and give each team a broom and 3–5 ping pong balls. Teams line up on opposite sides of the room.
One player at a time must use the broom to push all the “cannonballs” across the floor to the other side, then pass the broom to the next teammate, who pushes them back.
If a ball rolls away, players must chase it down and keep going. The first team to get all their balls across the finish line wins the treasure!
Pro Tip: Use different-colored ping pong balls for each team. It gets a little wild, and the ping pong balls roll everywhere!
7. Capture The Treasure

This is a pirate-themed version of Capture the Flag. Split kids into two teams and give each team a “treasure chest” (a bucket or box) in place of the flag.
Players must sneak into the opposing team’s area, grab treasure, and bring it back without getting tagged.
If tagged, they must return the treasure!
8. Captain’s Orders
This high-energy pirate game is all about quick thinking and fast reactions.
Before you start, teach the kids a set of pirate commands and what each one means:
- Starboard! – Run to the right side
- Port! – Run to the left side
- Captain on Deck! – Freeze and salute
- Man Overboard! – Grab a partner
- Scrub the Deck! – Drop down and pretend to scrub
- Climb the Rigging! – Pretend to climb
- Drop Anchor! – Crouch
- Hoist the Sails! – Reach up and pull
How to play:
One person acts as the captain and calls out commands. Players must quickly perform the correct action.
Here’s the twist: the captain can change commands at any moment. So if players are running to “Starboard!” and suddenly hear “Captain on Deck!” they must stop instantly and switch actions.
Anyone who does the wrong action, or doesn’t switch fast enough, is out for that round.
Keep playing until only one pirate remains. That player earns the title of First Mate!
9. Pirate Gold Party Minute To Win It Games

Gold Coin Stack: Stack as many pennies as you can in one minute. The trick? Use only one hand!
Gold Coin Relay Race: Divide players into teams. Each player must race across the yard or room carrying a “gold coin”, then pass it to the next teammate.

12. Desert Island Game

The Desert Island Game is perfect for keeping kids entertained without supplies. Players have to problem-solve to figure out the rule!
- Pick a rule – Decide what items are allowed on your desert island.
- Give a clue – Say:
“I’m stuck on an island and I can bring ________ but not ________.” - Guess the rule – Players suggest items to figure out the rule. Keep going until everyone has a turn or the rule is guessed.
13. Musical Island
This game is a spin on musical chairs that gets kids moving and laughing. Spread out large paper “islands” (or towels, mats, or cardboard) around the room, one less than the number of players. As upbeat pirate music or sea shanties play, kids travel around the “ocean,” hopping or tiptoeing from island to island. When the music suddenly stops, everyone must scramble to claim an island. The pirate left without one is out for that round.
Keep removing an island each time until one lucky pirate claims the final spot and wins! For extra fun, have everyone shout “Ahoy!” or “Arrr!” when the music stops.
14. Captain Hook Ring Toss Game

Kids will love this Captain Hook-themed ring-throwing game. Players take turns tossing rope loops and trying to land them on the hooks. You can assign points for each successful toss or have players compete to see who lands the most in a set number of turns. The player with the highest score wins!
