In an exclusive conversation, Anjum opened up about the defining turning points in his career. Reflecting on his journey, he shared, “Turning point in my career? I would say that it was the turning point of my life. In 2024, when Chamkila was released, Mamla Legal Hai was released, and then Chamkila and then Wild Wild Punjab. All three projects came together in 2024. And all three characters were different from one another. I mean, none of the characters were similar. So, people liked it a lot. People appreciated it a lot.”
He further added how this phase felt like a long awaited milestone, saying, “It happens that you have been thinking about this for a long time because it’s been so many years. In 2008, I did my first film. I did my debut with the film Dev D. It was Anurag Kashyap’s film. After that, Love Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, it’s a long list of projects that you have done in so many years. So, you want to reach somewhere. That’s why you are working. So, that first step, I think, which I crossed, and which changed a lot of things in my life, I felt that in 2024.”
When asked if the role required him to unlearn or rethink any acting habits, Anjum kept it simple and honest, stating, “Not really, I didn’t have to.”
Opening up about the struggles and self-doubt that often come with an acting career, he shared, “Well, everyone goes through this phase when you don’t have work. I shifted here to Mumbai in 2009, and whatever I have got in my career is because of this city. A lot of times when things don’t work out, you feel where am I going wrong. In my case, I have never let negativity affect me. I also tell myself to keep going and eventually everything will be fine.”
He further emphasized that his passion has been his biggest driving force, adding, “What keeps me going is my love for acting. I have been doing theatre, dance and acting since I was 14, and having another career has never even been in my mind. Life is about ups and downs, but one should embrace it with positivity.”
