Alcohol is a quick, easy and enjoyable way of unwinding and it can be a pleasurable and social way of relaxing with your friends. However, due to the fact that it’s so widely available, and the way that it makes one feel after a considerable amount of it, it can quickly affect health markers. Alcohol should be enjoyed in limited amounts (and not at all if you have an alcohol addiction or are taking medication which cannot mix with alcohol) but many find they can’t just enjoy a drink or two and end up binge drinking.
Many enjoy the sensation of being tipsy, and for those of us that deal with high levels of stress, it can quickly numb worries.
Unfortunately, not only does drinking high quantities of alcohol equate to a terrible hangover, but it can have many life damaging effects leading affecting all areas of life from leaving those dependent on it in debt, and even homeless in extreme cases. Here are some reasons why you should limit, or even say no to alcohol, and yes to your health.
Mood
It’s a well known fact that alcohol is a depressant. While it makes us feel good at the time and can fool us into thinking we are stress free, the next day we end up feeling even worse, and that’s not just because of the hangover. Alcohol upsets the chemical balance in our brains, which then makes us feel depressed. So as you can see, it’s not a wise solution for those of us that are feeling a little down in the dumps.
Mind
While alcohol isn’t the most addictive substance on earth, it’s still very easy to form a dependence to it. Many people fall into a trap of drinking a lot and often because they want to avoid feeling their normal lives again, in the same way that drug addiction works, you can easily find yourself depending on that high that you feel when you’re drinking. If you feel like you might be falling into a trap, or even if you already have, then you should find a treatment centre that can help you break the habit and give you counselling so that you can face reality again.
Money
Booze doesn’t come cheap either. While there are ways of getting cheap alcohol to guzzle down, if you build up resistance to the way it makes you feel you will soon find yourself spending lots of money on it. As mentioned above, because of the addictive qualities of it, it can be hard for people to simply not buy it, which then leads them to getting themselves into debt.
Health
Finally, there are many health related reasons that should be considered when it comes to alcohol too. You can seriously damage your liver if you’re not careful about how much you’re consuming and how regularly too. It will dramatically age you faster than any other drink, and will promote grey hairs, weight gain, skin troubles, and also bad breath. Put simply, it’s not worth it, so get help if you need it.
