This free Birthday Mad Libs printable is the perfect way to add some laugh-out-loud fun to your celebration!
Mad Libs are silly fill-in-the-blank stories where players add random nouns, verbs, and adjectives to create a hilarious and completely unpredictable story. They’re simple to play and fun for all ages.
They’re also a huge hit in our house! My kids absolutely love doing Mad Libs and can’t stop laughing at the ridiculous stories we end up creating. It’s one of those activities they always ask to do again and again.

How To Play Mad Libs
Here’s how to play:
1. One player is given the story containing blank spaces. Each space is labeled for a specific part of speech such as an adjective, noun, or verb. Or a category like a number, food, or person.
2. Without revealing the story, this player asks the others to supply words for each blank.
3. Once all the blanks are filled, the completed story is read aloud, leading to hilarious results!
Mad Libs Game Variations
You can easily adapt these mad libs for younger children by offering simpler prompts.
For example:
- Instead of asking for a noun, be specific and ask for a person, place, or thing.
- Use word categories instead of parts of speech (numbers, food, emotion, etc…).
- Make a word list ahead of time for each category.
- Give two or three choices that younger kids will be excited to choose from.
- Use a word bank. Players must use all the words. (This works well in a classroom!)
My boys lean toward potty humor when filling out Mad Libs. (Can you relate?) Give a quick reminder to keep things G-rated!

Play In Teams
Divide into teams. Each team creates their version of the Mad Libs story. Once all the stories are filled out, each team can read their completed story aloud.
The one that gets the most laughs wins!
Play Round Robin
Instead of having one person ask for all the blanks, let each family member or guest take turns filling in one.
This adds an element of surprise and makes the story even more hilarious!
