Funny and Smart Things My 3 and 1/2 Year Old Has Said Recently

Posted on

These blog posts, noting funny and smart things that my third, child, Florence, now 3 and 1/2 says, follow the ones I wrote recording my sons’ funny and clever musings of years gone by and form part of our family archive here on the blog, a memory tool for us to reflect upon down the line, because while the days are long, the years certainly are short and I don’t want to forget a thing!

Here are some recent statements from the chatty, witty and wonderful Florence!

When she placed some apple juice on the coffee table earlier today, she started to scramble around in search of something,

“I need a coaster, Mum”. Yes, she calls me Mum more than Mummy these days thanks to a certain character called Bluey! I had no idea she even knew the word coaster to be honest!

Inventing a bedtime story when my husband, Peter, finished telling her three fairtyales before bed, she said, “I have a story now. Mr Pooh went to his house and had a wee then he had a pooh, hahaha!” She could not contain her laughter which was so contagious, my husband was in hysterics too!

Pushing the child size trolley in M&S recently, she ran through the aisles gleefully shouting, “I don’t want to calm down” and laughing to herself. I couldn’t help myself laughing either. I think that statement would make a good title of an autobiography!

Florence is great with a shopping list too and drew the items we needed today, pretending to write ‘milk’, ‘eggs’ etc. beside drawings (in some cases quite abstract drawings) so we wouldn’t forget what we needed!

When I brought out some sugar snap peas to eat, my current summer hyperfixation, she said, “Not again with the peas”!

She misses nothing, that child, and as I’ve embarked on a low carb diet this past month, she has noticed my penchant for protein bars and sugar-free treats. Eating some sweets yesterday she asked me, “Are they sugar-free?”! I don’t discuss diets with her or even within earshot but I have told her that sugar isn’t healthy and we need to opt for natural sugars such as fruit where fibre is present. She definitely has more meltdowns post ice cream and sweet treats when she’s at my Mum’s house, that’s for sure. Grandmother’s prerogative apparently!

That’s all I can remember for now but I’ll report back soon!
