My youngest child and only daughter, Florence, is 4 and 2 months old ‘going on’ at least 14 and I enjoy documenting the funny and smart things she says for posterity. I often return to similar posts I wrote about her older brothers who are now 13 and 16. If you’re new here, welcome to my blog aka family archive aka a fodder for speeches on my kids’ 21sts/ wedding days! I love the way her mind works!
This morning, Florence said the below and I’m still laughing about it now!
“Mummy, I put a toilet roll in my bedroom so we can do sneezes”.
After I had read her 3 bedtime stories: Superworm, Tiddler and Tabby McTatt followed by 2 invented by me, it was time for Florence to sleep so I started to play a game on my phone. She quickly sat up and crossly said, “Can you put your phone away, it’s a distraction”! Yes sir!
Looking at my make up, she said, “Ooh that’s a pretty gold eyeshadow palette”. I didn’t even know she knew that word. I feel like she’s a complete sponge and everything I say is absorbed and used in context. Clever girl!
She did also say after we watched Zootropolis: edge of your seat adventure, not as emotive as the first and a little too convoluted for my liking (the box office figures clearly don’t agree with me), “This is my cinema, Mummy, the boys (meaning her brothers) are not allowed, OK”. When we returned to the Everyman last night as a family for dinner, she did remind me I was breaking her ‘only girls allowed’ rule! Well the boys, now teenagers can be moody so I can’t blame her!
Last but not least, ever the fashionista, Florence asked me to find her some white cowgirl boots like my own on Vinted and we found the sweetest little replicas (as close to mine as possible although I’m not sure they’re leather) with a teeny wooden heel (I couldn’t find any flat ones which were my preference for her) and some rainbow coloured stitching in abstract designs of wings and flowers on them.
She’s been clomping around in them since we opened the parcel which arrived along with a bunch of dresses she’d also chosen, most in bright pink, yellow and peach and white floral frocks by Dolly Wears (one of our faves), Next and Primark.
I love that she’s already sure about her style and knows what she likes and most of all that she wants to twin with me. She’s definitely my Mini Me!
Which also includes stealing my accessories.
The photo above of her in my Gucci scarf (another brand new, pre owned find from Vinted) and my new Next woollen hat she insisted on wearing on a walk recently made me laugh! She paired it with a beautiful John Lewis Heritage coat my friend kindly passed on to her, her daughter had only worn a few times and had grown out of. She looks iconic, hehehe!
I adore fashion but worry about the environment impact of the clothing industry so prioritise second hand items and charity shop finds where possible and I’m teaching my kids that too. Florence can’t even walk past a charity shop now without suggesting, “We check out the clothes and toys”! Def my Mini Me!!!
