Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe’s Play Saw High Broadway Grosses

The lingering impacts from the snowstorm appeared in last week’s grosses, as six productions were forced to cancel performances Feb. 23.

In turn, Broadway grosses tumbled 17.5 percent and attendance fell 8.4 percent, as Chicago, Every Brilliant Thing, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Six and The Great Gatsby lost a performance last week. This came after the Feb. 22 evening performances were cancelled for 10 productions, leading to a 14 percent slump in the previous week’s grosses.

Even down a performance, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was still the week’s top grossing show, bringing in $2.16 million with star Tom Felton, followed by Hamilton with $1.8 million, Just In Time with $1.5 million, The Lion King with $1.33 million and Wicked with $1.3 million.

Every Brilliant Thing, the one-man show led by Daniel Radcliffe, still appears to be off to a big start, even after having to cancel performances due to the snowstorm. Last week the interactive play brought in close to $1 million across just seven performances at the Hudson Theatre. Average ticket price was $134.72, the sixth highest in the industry for the week, just behind Chicago, which has been on a run of its run.

Whitney Leavitt, star of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, continues to draw crowds to Chicago, as the musical pulled in $1.2 million last week, even while only playing seven performances, and saw the Ambassador Theatre play to 100 percent capacity. The grosses, which were around $600,000 in the weeks before she began, have been above $1 million for all three weeks of her run so far. She’s scheduled to remain in the show through April 5.
