Jana Nayagan Censor Update: The uncertainty surrounding the censor certification of Jana Nayagan, starring actor-politician Vijay, persisted on Tuesday after the film’s scheduled screening before the Revising Committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly did not take place as planned.

According to reports, the Revising Committee was expected to review the film in Chennai on March 17. The session was said to be headed by CBFC board member T.S. Nagabharana. However, the screening did not proceed as planned, adding to the ongoing delays in the film’s certification process.

This is the second such disruption in recent days. The review meeting was earlier slated for March 9 but had to be postponed at the last minute after a committee member reportedly fell ill. With Tuesday’s development, there is still no clarity on when the film will be screened next.

Jana Nayagan Censor Delay: Release Timeline Remains Unclear

Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, has been facing certification hurdles for several months. The film, which features Vijay in the lead along with Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju, is positioned as a political action thriller. The supporting cast includes Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani.

The project has drawn attention not only for its cast but also for its timing, as it is expected to be Vijay’s final film appearance before his full-time entry into politics.

The censor-related issues date back to December 2025, when the film was submitted for certification. While an initial examining committee is understood to have recommended a U/A rating after suggesting minor modifications, the process was later escalated to a revising committee following complaints regarding certain scenes.

Subsequently, the producers approached the Madras High Court in early January, citing delays in certification. Although the court had directed the CBFC to issue a certificate, the matter took a legal turn after further proceedings, including an appeal that temporarily stalled the process. The producers also moved the Supreme Court before eventually withdrawing their petition in February and opting to resubmit the film to the revising committee.

The prolonged delay has pushed the film’s release indefinitely. It was initially scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, 2026.

Technically, the film features music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, and editing by Pradeep E. Ragav. Produced by Venkat K. Narayana, the film marks KVN Productions’ first venture in Tamil cinema.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation from the CBFC or the makers regarding a revised date for the screening. The next steps in the certification process remain unclear, leaving the film’s release timeline uncertain.
