Jana Nayagan Release Delay: Flop Movie Already? What Will Happen To Thalapathy Vijay’s Film?

Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s world has been rocking from one disaster to another over the past six months. The Karur stampede deaths, Sangeetha Vijay’s petition for divorce, and a huge negative uproar even from his die-hard fans over him showing up with Actress Trisha as if they are a couple in public spaces have all put Vijay in a tough spot again and again.

Now, a previous headache has resurfaced in the name of Jananayagan.TVK leader Vijay’s supposedly last film, Jananayagan, has hit a wall again.

The film Jananayagan, directed by H. Vinoth and starring TVK leader Vijay, had earlier run into a censor-related issue, and its scheduled release on January 9 was indefinitely postponed. Later, after moving to the courts, an order was issued for the film’s team to send the movie to the Censor Board’s Revising Committee.

The screening of the film was scheduled to take place on March 9 at 2 PM. However, reports say that the screening of Jananayagan was suddenly cancelled because some members of the committee fell ill.

Now, what will happen to Jananayagan?

There are two likely scenarios in play.
Scenario 1

The film may get censor approval after the officials recover from their illness. Then the makers of the movie could decide to release the film this March itself.

But it’s a big IF. Why?

Because the Election Commission can announce election dates for the Tamil Nadu State Assembly at any minute, and the Model Code of Conduct will become applicable the moment the announcement is made.

Jananayagan is believed to be a movie made with the notion of being a propaganda piece for TVK leader Vijay’s venture into politics. If the movie releases now and contains politically charged scenes, it will certainly raise the eyebrows of other parties contesting in the elections.

Anyone can file a complaint with the Election Commission, and if they deem the complaint worthy of action, Jananayagan could be put on hold again even after its release.

So this scenario will likely not be entertained by the producers, as it is a lose-lose situation.
Scenario 2

Jananayagan gets released after the elections.

Then the question will be: What happens to the political scenes aimed mainly at the elections in the movie?

They will become outdated. The filmmakers may then choose to cut those scenes to make the movie relevant to that time. But in the process, the film may become redundant.

Fans may still enjoy watching the star on the big screen one last time, but as a movie, it may fail.

So whenever Jananayagan gets its release, it is most likely to be a BIG FLOP.
