With Kohrra 2 now streaming on Netflix, Pooja Bhamrrah steps into one of the most layered and powerful roles of her career as Preet Bajwa, a woman shaped by patriarchy, silence, and sacrifice, who finally chooses herself.
This season traces Preet’s emotional awakening against the backdrop of a deeply rooted patriarchal setup. For years, she has internalized expectations placed upon her as a daughter, sister, wife, and mother quietly enduring, adjusting, and shrinking herself to fit into roles defined by others. But as cracks begin to show in the carefully constructed façade of her family life, Preet is forced to confront uncomfortable truths. Betrayal from those she trusted the most becomes her harsh reality, and the cost of silence weighs heavier than ever. At her lowest point, she makes a choice not driven by rebellion, but by survival. And that decision alters everything.
Speaking about her character, Pooja shares, “Preet Bajwa, coming from a typical Punjabi conservative family laden with patriarchy, is that woman who, after having lived on someone else’s terms almost all her life first her brother and then her husband, finally decides to take control, to get in the driver’s seat of her life. She isn’t worried about the consequences of her choices anymore. She wants to now do right by her own self for a change. Everything else is secondary. What people think, what her own family thinks, nothing matters anymore – not even her own husband or kids. She is free of any judgments that you may have because of her choices. You know what, she finally is now spreading her wings. What that leads to – you’ve got to watch the show for that!”
For Pooja, embodying Preet was a deeply immersive process. “Half our work is done when it’s a well-written script! It all started with first having an in-detail discussion with our directors Sudip Sir and Faisal. They introduced me to the world of Preet ever so gently and with so much ease that I instantly could see her. Next came workshops with our acting coach Nitin Goel, who is just so brilliant at what he does. The way he handheld me and Rannvijay dive into our worlds, into the world of Kohrra, exploring our relationship with each other and with our own selves was just incredible, albeit emotionally exhausting.”
The preparation was intense, particularly as the narrative required emotional vulnerability and complex relational dynamics. The workshops allowed Pooja and her co-actor Rannvijay to organically build the strained yet layered marriage that forms the backbone of Preet’s journey.
With Kohrra 2, Pooja Bhamrrah doesn’t just play a character she embodies a woman reclaiming her narrative. Preet Bajwa’s story is raw, uncomfortable, and empowering all at once, promising audiences a performance that lingers long after the credits roll.
