As Kohrra season 2 is the current flavour of the town, the actors associated with the Netflix series are gaining brownie points from the audience.

Neeru Sehgal, who played Loveleen in Kohrra 2, drew experience from more than 40 advertising campaigns as she showcased her acting prowess in the web show. She has shot for over 40 ads, proving her calibre.

Before moving into long-form drama, Neeru built visibility through advertising, having featured in over 40 campaigns for major brands. Guess what? She has shared the screen with Ranveer Singh, Mahesh Babu, Harshvardhan Rane, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, and Randeep Hooda

In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat Chief Copy Editor Abhishek Ranjit, Neeru spoke about preparing for this layered role, shaping Loveleen’s backstory and emotional graph associated with the character.

Here are excerpts from the interview-

1- You’ve done over 40 ad films before stepping into long-format storytelling. How different was the experience of performing in a layered series like Kohrra Season 2 compared to advertising work?

Doing over 40 ad films really trained me to be precise, I believe, because in Ad films, you have barely seconds to communicate and convey a clear emotion. Everything is so well structured and immediate. Basically, Working in an ad film teaches you how to access emotion rather quickly. But a layered series like Kohrra Season 2 is a completely different ball game. Instead of delivering a moment so precise like in ad films, you’re actually living in that moment where emotions can unfold on its time as per the screenplay. You can have so many nuances, like with space for silence, emoting with eyes only, and so on. It requires much deeper character exploration and emotional endurance rather than immediate impact. Kohrra allowed me to live the life of my character, Loveleen, and not just perform a scene.

2- Loveleen is subtle yet emotionally pivotal to the narrative. How did you approach building emotional depth and presence in a character who speaks more through silences than words?

Loveleen presented and was a symbol of humility and unconditional love. She loved Sam and Nikki, and Juno without expecting anything in return. As I was given more information and details about Loveleen’s character, I started building her life’s story in my head. Where Sudip sir, Faisal sir, and Niti sir (workshop teacher) helped a lot. Knowing the family/background she comes from and facing hardships in her life, taught her to be so wise to know that silence speaks louder than words. Knowing all this really helped me get into the deeper roots of who Loveleen is in Kohrra.

3- We’ve heard you underwent detailed character workshops with Rannvijay Singh. What was that preparation process like, and how did it help you shape Loveleen’s backstory?

It was an intense one day workshop where Nitin sir conducted the workshop. It stated off with everyone’s intro, some meditation and breathwork. Then we dived deep into it. Nitin sir is a dangerous man who will get all the emotions out of you and make you more aware you of your own inner world. Safe to say it worked for both Rannvijay and me as we both ended up crying. Second half Sudip sir and Faisal sir joined and together we worked on relation building between Sam and Loveleen, understood each other’s lives, which played a huge role in doing justice to our characters. It was an intense and highly emotional workshop.

4- Kohrra is known for its atmospheric storytelling. How challenging was it shooting in Punjab’s real winter fog, especially during intense night schedules?

Just like the title of the show, pretty much everyone shot in thick/heavy fog. Be it early morning call times or late night shoots, Punjab’s winter was brutal but it could not deter anyone from creating this masterpiece. It was always super cold. There were always lots of electric heaters on set, hot tea, coffee, warm food etc. I had the most amazing time shooting for Kohrra.

5- Your character forms a nurturing bond with the children in the series. How did you build that emotional authenticity with the young actors on set?

This was easy!!! I believe i have a strong knack of clicking with kids instantly. When I met Nikki and Juno for the first time on my first day of shoot, i made them feel comfortable and became their friends. I had lots of fun conversation with them to get to know them more. One thing about kids, if u win their hearts, they are like an open book and will shower you with all the love. Same thing happened between me and Nikki & Juno. Both are very loving, smart, and talented kids.

6- Looking back at your journey from being the face of major ad campaigns alongside stars to now playing a performance-driven OTT role, how do you see yourself evolving as an actor?

Working alongside big stars and major brands gave me discipline, camera awareness, and the ability to hold my own in high-pressure environments. But long-format storytelling pushed me deeper. It demanded vulnerability, patience, and a willingness to sit with uncomfortable emotions instead of just presenting a polished version of myself, for example, my very intense workshop.

With an OTT role, I’m living a journey, I’m learning to trust silences and the rollercoaster of internal emotions. As an actor, I see myself moving toward more nuanced, performance-driven work where the character leads and reaches straight to audiences’ hearts. It is such a fulfilling feeling that is very hard to put into words. I am immensely grateful that I get to do what I love.
