Supplies You Need For This Punch Board Game
All you need to play is:
- Foam board
- Glue gun and glue sticks
- Solo cups
- Prizes (I like to do a mix of gift cards, money, candy, and other small things). Gag gifts can be fun too.
- Brown and red tissue paper
- Scissors
- Rubber bands
Note: To make sure everyone gets a turn, you’ll want to have as many (or more) cups than people at your gathering.

To Set Up The Reindeer Punch Game
Before you can play, you’ll have to make the punch board.
1. First, lay out your cups on the foam board to figure out your design and the number of cups you need. (I thought the design below looked most like a reindeer)

Again, you’ll want to use enough cups for everyone at the party, so if you’re doing a classroom Christmas party, make sure you have enough cups for the whole class.
2. Once you’ve figured out your design, fill all of your cups with gift cards, money, candy, or gag gifts (more ideas below!). Make sure you keep it random, and no one sees where you put them.
Bonus: Hide a red pom pom (Rudolph’s nose) in 1-3 of the cups for an extra prize at the end of the game!
3. Next, you need to cover your cups so that players have something to punch through. I cut my sheets of brown tissue paper in half, but it will depend on how big your tissue paper is in the package. (Cut them all at once to make it faster!)

Note: Your tissue paper squares don’t need to be perfect or huge. They just need to be able to cover the cups.
4. Place the piece of tissue paper on top of your cup.

Then, wrap a rubber band around the tissue paper and cup to secure the paper to the cup.
Repeat this process with all of your tissue paper until all of your cups are covered. Wrap the cup at the very bottom with red tissue paper to look like Rudolph’s nose.

5. Finally, hot glue the bottom of each cup to its spot and place them hot glue side down on the board. Keep going until they’re all glued down, looking like the design you want.

Your game will look like this when you’re ready to play!

Objective of the Reindeer Punch Game
The objective is to “punch” a cup with a fun prize in it! This is just a silly and exciting way to give away fun stuff at Christmas 🙂
What Makes This Game So Fun?
It’s the suspense and mystery of not knowing what’s in each cup. Plus, it’s surprisingly satisfying to punch your way through something! (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you definitely need to play this game!)
Fun fact: The punch game is inspired by The Price Is Right, where contestants punched through paper circles to reveal hidden prizes.

Fun Prize Ideas for This Reindeer Game Board
While everyone loves the basics (money, gift cards, and candy), this themed punch game is even more fun when you get creative. Try some of these too:

How to Play The Christmas Punch Game
The general idea of a Christmas punch game is simple. Everyone gets a turn, and on their turn, they choose one cup to punch through (unless you’ve made enough for multiples)
They pull out any prizes inside and keep them.
Fun Reindeer Punch Game Variations
For a fun variation, you can pair it with another game on the site and make it more of a prize game when they win.

You can also turn this punch game into an Advent Calendar. Write down your Christmas bucket list or these Advent calendar ideas on slips of paper. Then, put them in the cups before you add the tissue paper. For every day in December, have your kids punch one cup to see what you do for the day!
How to Make This a Gift Exchange Game
It’s actually quite easy to do! There are two ways to do it:
Instead of placing money or gifts in the cups, put numbers in the cups. The number each participant punches out will be the order of your gift exchange. Or you can have each number correspond to a specific wrapped gift.
Have everyone bring a gift that’s small enough to put in a cup. Then, make the punching process your actual gift exchange. How fun!
Common Questions and Answers
What if the players don’t like their prizes?
You get to make the rules for this game! If they don’t like their prize and want to switch with someone else who doesn’t like their prize, they can. Or you can decide beforehand that all players keep what they get.
What if you have more people than you have space on the board?
If you have more players than space on your foam board, prepare extra pre-filled cups ahead of time and keep them off to the side. As players punch out cups, simply replace the empty ones with the ready-to-go cups. It’s a perfect solution for large groups!
What else could you do for a Christmas punch cup game board?
The sky is the limit! Do a Grinch theme, candy cane, Christmas present, or stick with a simple Christmas tree design (the easiest). Whatever you do, your guests are going to LOVE the suspense and mystery that this game brings!
