It’s not often we get to holiday in our hometown of Harrogate but we’ve spent two days doing just that recently, making the stunning DoubleTree by Hilton Majestic Hotel & Spa our new home, and what a home it is!
I generously (ha) took along my husband, Peter, and youngest child, Florence, 3, and it was a real treat to enjoy quality time together.
My older sons had sporting commitments so were looked after by my folks who moved into our house to play taxi driver and personal chef whilst we three enjoyed a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating stay at The DoubleTree by Hilton Majestic Hotel & Spa, an exquisite period hotel enveloped in stunning landscaped gardens, with breathtaking views overlooking the spa town of Harrogate.
The hotel is home to the art deco style Carters Champagne Bar & Grill, Fredericks Lounge & Terrace and luxurious Harrogate Spa alongside 184 modern guest bedrooms and event spaces hosting up to 500 delegates or weddings alike. With original features restored, vibrant stained glass windows glinting in the sunshine, and calming pale green and cream hues throughout, you can’t help but feel relaxed there.
A family-friendly destination, from the moment we arrived Florence was wowed with the opulent fountains at the hotel entrance and entertained throughout. Thoughtful games awaited her at the Fredericks Lounge & Terrace with dominoes and card games allowing us to eat our creamy Caesar Salad and tangy Nachos peacefully and tall glasses of cooling Peach Tea cocktails and draught beer respectively before playing giant Jenga on the lawn with her.
The staff were excellent throughout, so genuinely kind and caring, with several mentioning without prompting on how happy they feel working there; that the work culture is brilliant and they feel incredibly valued.
Each member of staff went above and beyond, whether that was offering cookies and refreshments at Reception on arrival to preparing bath toys for Florence to play with in their premium swimming pool to Prosecco on ice and chocolates for us to enjoy in our vast King Deluxe Room and pretty red rose petals and swan shaped towels laid out on our bed.
Additions such as a small step ladder for Florence so she could reach the sink in the en-suite were so thoughtful.
There really is something for all of the family at the hotel from the state-of-the-art spa, swimming pool (with star lights in the ceiling after sunset and luxurious gym to the gorgeous grounds of this elegant Victorian property, games for children, family time swims, and of course the spa town of Harrogate to enjoy a few moments walk from the hotel where you’ll find high street and independent shops as well as the theatre, cinemas, cafes and restaurants and sprawling parks including our much-loved Valley Gardens, with an adventure playground, tennis courts and shallow Lido to boot.
A highlight for Florence was the ‘Rest & Read’ teepee filled with books and a soft blanket and pillow, a little sanctuary of her own in our bedroom she whiled away hours in.
The food did not disappoint either.
Dinner at the enchanting Carters Champagne Bar & Grill with hearty and generous portions from a British and Asian inspired menu and breakfast was top-notch with huge variety.
The spa was one of the most memorable parts of the stay for me.
Their Harrogate Spa offers a huge range of thermal therapies and spa treatments and I loved every minute of my deep body massage by experienced and kind therapist Gabby who used restorative ESPA products to relax my achingly body and busy mind. ESPA products are expertly formulated with luxurious textures and sensorial mood-enhancing naromatics and I literally floated back to my room after the experience!
We spotted the pretty Harrogate Spa’s Zen Garden which was refurbished in 2023, complete with a new 10-person outdoor hot tub but didn’t have time to visit on this occassion. A great excuse to return!
I proudly swam 50 laps on both days and fully relaxed in their saunas. We popped to our family fave of Valley Gardens as the sun came out, before returning home.
A dreamy few days away.
What an absolute haven and so near to home. We highly recommend a stay there.
Thanks to Spa Seekers and The Majestic Hotel for this wonderful family break.
This was a complimentary press visit but as always, my words are honest.
