Acclaimed actor Roshan Mathew has earned a nomination at the Critics’ Choice Awards 2026 for his performance in Kankhajura, further cementing his reputation as one of the most versatile performers across formats today.
Known for seamlessly balancing work between independent cinema, mainstream films, and streaming series, Mathew’s nomination highlights the growing recognition of nuanced storytelling across platforms.
Reflecting on the changing landscape of content consumption and storytelling, Roshan Mathew shared, “I don’t think life has taken a 360-degree turn if anything, it has only become richer. With more opportunities and projects, especially in the series space, there’s a lot more opening up for actors today. Long-format storytelling offers a unique advantage because it gives stories more room to breathe, allows characters to evolve more deeply, and gives actors greater space to explore their craft. We’ve seen so many performers flourish by taking on multiple, layered roles across formats. Accessibility is also one of the biggest strengths of OTT, the ease with which audiences can discover and watch content. Having worked on OTT series like Khauf and Black & White, as well as theatrical films, I don’t see a major creative difference in the process. But with a series, there is the added comfort that it’s not just about the first weekend; there’s time for the story to travel and reach its audience. That’s what makes OTT such a democratic space for both creators and viewers.”
With Kankhajura, Mathew delivers a performance that underscores his ability to bring depth and authenticity to complex characters. His nomination at the Critics’ Choice Awards 2026 not only celebrates his individual craft but also reflects the industry’s broader shift toward embracing diverse storytelling formats, from theatrical releases to OTT platforms.
Organised by the Film Critics Guild in partnership with WPP Motion Entertainment, the Critics’ Choice Awards honour excellence across feature films, web series, documentaries, and short films. With a distinguished jury of film critics from across the country, the awards continue to recognise compelling narratives that push the boundaries of Indian entertainment across languages and formats.
