Maya’s Gratitude Story
Maya sank into the driver’s seat after a long, exhausting day. The kind where every task felt like lifting a boulder. She let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding and rested her forehead on the steering wheel.
Then she noticed an older woman slowly crossing the parking lot. She was carrying a grocery bag in each hand, smiling as if the chilly wind didn’t bother her. A younger man hurried ahead of her, clearly distracted. But when he glanced back and saw her struggling, he jogged over and took one of the bags. The woman’s face lit up. She said something Maya couldn’t hear, but the gratitude was unmistakable.
It stopped Maya in her tracks. Life is heavy for everyone, she realized. Not just her.
And yet people still find reasons to smile, to help, and to appreciate small kindnesses.
Maybe she could do that too.
That night, instead of replaying everything that went wrong, Maya made herself name three things that went right. Not big things. Just enough. Warm socks. A good cup of coffee. That simple moment in the parking lot.
Her life didn’t change overnight. But her perspective did. Gratitude doesn’t erase the hard. But it makes it easier to carry. And the good easier to see.
November 18th marks Mickey Mouse’s birthday, celebrating his 1928 film debut.
Fun fact: before Mickey, Walt Disney created a rabbit named Oswald. But when he lost the rights, a cheerful mouse was born instead.
