You deserve to feel confident my friend, and whilst my own confidence wanes like the rest of us, I’ve discovered some ways to boost my mood, even on the days I feel tougher to love.
Below, I share how to feel happier in your skin so you can live a full and fun life. Let’s go:
Do Difficult Things
This is a simple but powerful way to become more confident, so go ahead and push yourself out of your comfort zone, it’s the quickest way to grow. Doing hard things on purpose, will help you realise your strength and resilience and it will importantly teach you what you actually like. How will you know what you enjoy if you don’t give it a go? You will only discover your purpose when you push yourself.
Confidence grows when you prove to yourself that you can handle discomfort, whether that’s trying your hand at piano or painting, or pivoting into that business idea you’ve had for years.Whatever it is, make sure you stop putting the harder things off and start taking action. You’re the protagonist in your own story so own it!
Don’t Wait To Feel Ready
It’s often the case that we wait to feel confident before acting when confidence so often follows from taking action. Even if things don’t pan out how you anticipated, you will learn from the experience. So, start the thing, even if you feel shaky – in fact, especially if you do – and you’ll rapidly realise you can handle it. I went through a period of disliking flying years ago, but then had to take 13 flights in one year due to my directing work (pre blogging days) and this exposure meant I soon stopped worrying. Flying was naturalised for me. The same applies in business, and in absolutely any area of your life. The more you do something, the easier it becomes.
Look After Yourself
Move your body to help it and your mind, meditate, take long baths, read widely, turn off tech before you sleep- simply prioritise your own self care. I love pampering myself personally, and that means prioritising my skincare. I like my skin to feel healthy and nourished, I find my skincare routine, especially in the evening once the kids are asleep, feels calming and is something I rarely ever skip.
Why don’t you reflect on ways to improve your own health and consider plumping for an excellent skin care experience from time to time too (get it).
Audit Your Self-Talk
Confidence is often crushed by a harsh and critical inner dialogue. Pay attention to how you talk to yourself, and consider how you can change it. Question whether you’d speak to a friend that way – would it be fair and loving, and if not, stop. Therapy has helped me hugely with self talk because my previously negative voice has, for the most part, been replaced by my caring and empathetic therapist’s voice.
I hope these pointers help you feel more confident!
