Why We Love This Teriyaki Chicken and Bowtie Pasta Salad

Some recipes come and go. Others stick with you for years—even if you only had them once. That was the case with this Teriyaki Chicken and Bowtie Pasta Salad, which I first tasted at a wedding years ago. I never got the original recipe, but the memory of that flavor stuck. So I recreated it myself—and the result is a flavor-packed, protein-rich salad that’s become a must-make at every gathering since!

  • Packed with protein & veggies
  • Great for picky eaters thanks to the sweet teriyaki flavor!
  • Perfect for potlucks, picnics, or weekday dinners
  • Customizable for almost any diet or taste
  • Simple to make and easy to throw together
  • It’s easy to stretch without messing up the goodness
  • The flavor is so great that people come back for seconds, thirds, and even fourths!
  • It is easy to keep the ingredients on hand and make myself a small salad for lunch or a bigger batch for the whole family.

This is the kind of salad people remember—and ask for again and again. Light, flavorful, and oh-so-satisfying!

Tips & Tricks:

  • Let it chill: Marinating the pasta is worth the time! It soaks up all that sweet-savory goodness from the teriyaki sauce.
  • Save the crunch: Add the crispy noodles right before serving to keep them from getting soggy.
  • Make it ahead: You can prep all the ingredients (except the noodles) a day in advance, then toss together when ready to serve.
  • Leftover love: This salad holds up well for lunch the next day—just store the dressing and noodles separately until ready to eat.

Substitutions & Add-Ins:

  • Protein: Swap rotisserie chicken with grilled chicken breasts, tofu, or edamame for a vegetarian option.
  • Craisins: Use raisins, golden raisins, or skip entirely if preferred.
  • Spinach: Try baby kale or spring mix if spinach isn’t your thing.
  • Mandarin Oranges: Add a few for extra sweetness—but use sparingly so they don’t overpower the flavor.
  • Pasta: Want to go whole grain? Use whole wheat bowtie pasta or even quinoa pasta.

Servings: 8

  • 16 oz bowtie pasta
  • 1/2 cup Soy Vay Very Very Teriyaki Sauce no substitutes!
  • 16-24 oz fresh spinach
  • 3/4 cup chow mein noodles La Choy brand is my favorite
  • 3/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 1-2 cups rotisserie or grilled chicken cubed
  • Cook the pasta according to package directions. Place the drained pasta in a gallon-size ziplock bag. Pour 1/2 cup of the teriyaki sauce over the pasta and gently toss until all the noodles are covered. Seal the bag and lay flat in the refrigerator for three hours or overnight, turning halfway through.

  • Mix the dressing ingredients together in a glass jar. Securely tighten a lid on the jar and shake vigorously to combine.

  • Layer all of the ingredients (except the chow mein noodles) together in a large bowl or platter.

  • Just before you are ready to serve, pour 3/4 of the dressing over the salad and toss to combine. Add the chow mein noodles and give it another toss.

  • Add more dressing if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!

  • The brand of teriyaki sauce DOES make a difference for this recipe.  I strongly recommend you use the brand included above.
  • Mandarin oranges can be added, but they tend to dominate the flavor, so use sparingly.
  • Craisins can be optional.  Substitute with raisins, golden raisins, or mandarin oranges. Or, just omit.
