Ultimate Guide To The Danger Word Game

Objective

Get your teammate to guess the target word without saying the “danger word” on the card.

Supplies Needed

• Play from the post using your device, make your own cards, or shop the ready-to-print Danger Word game cards.
• Scorecard and pen

How To Play

1. Divide into two-person teams. Choose one teammate to start as the guesser and the other as the clue-giver.

2. The first clue-giver draws a card and shows it to the other clue-givers.

• Target Word: The word at the top of the card that your teammate must guess.
• Danger Word: The one word you don’t want them to say!

3. Starting with Team 1, the clue-giver gives a one-word hint to their teammate. This clue cannot use any part of the target word or the danger word. It must be a clue that describes or relates to the target word.

If a card has a two-word phrase like “ice cream,” let the guessers know it’s a multiple-word phrase so they don’t get stuck thinking they can only guess a single word.

4. The guesser responds with one word they think is the target word.

• If correct → That team scores a point and the round ends.
• If incorrect → The next team takes their turn.
• If anyone guesses the danger word → The round ends immediately (no points!).

5. Play continues around the teams until someone gets the correct word.

6. After each round, switch roles (guesser ↔ clue-giver), draw a new card, and start again.

7. The team with the most points at the end wins!

Team Play Variation

Instead of playing in pairs, divide everyone into two larger teams. Each round, one clue-giver from each team sees the card and gives their teammate (the team’s guesser) one-word clues, alternating turns between teams.

• If the guesser gets the target word, their team earns a point.
• If they guess the danger word, the point goes to the other team!
• Teams rotate clue-givers and guessers each round to keep it fair.

This version keeps everyone involved, adds strategy, and turns the game into a lively group competition!
