Vijay Summoned Again In Karur Stampede Probe: Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has been asked to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for another round of questioning in connection with the Karur stampede case. According to officials cited in media reports, the agency has issued a fresh summons directing him to appear at its office on March 10.

As reported by The Hindu, investigators have sought Vijay’s presence for further clarification as part of the ongoing probe. Officials indicated that the agency has gathered additional material during the investigation that requires further questioning of the actor-politician.

The CBI had earlier questioned Vijay twice at its headquarters in New Delhi in January. The first round of questioning took place on January 12 and lasted several hours, during which he recorded his statement. He returned to the agency on January 19 for a second round of interaction with investigators.

Karur Stampede Case: Probe Background And Developments

The inquiry relates to the stampede that occurred during Vijay’s political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on September 27, 2025. The incident resulted in the deaths of 41 people and left more than 60 others injured, making it one of the most serious crowd-control tragedies linked to a political gathering in recent years.

According to The Hindu, the CBI took over the investigation after the Supreme Court directed the agency to conduct a fresh probe. The case had earlier been handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The apex court also instructed the CBI director to assign a senior officer to lead the investigation and set up a supervisory panel headed by former Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi to monitor the progress of the case.

The Supreme Court, while ordering the probe, observed that the stampede had deeply affected public sentiment across the country and raised significant concerns regarding the protection of citizens’ rights. The court emphasised the need for an impartial investigation to ensure accountability and restore public confidence in the criminal justice system.

A report by Times of India noted that the fresh summons comes amid speculation about the BJP reaching out to Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for possible alliance talks.

During his earlier interactions with investigators, Vijay is said to have discussed the circumstances surrounding the rally and provided certain documents related to the event. According to sources quoted by Times of India, he had also raised concerns about the adequacy of police deployment during the gathering.

The investigation into the Karur stampede remains ongoing, with the agency continuing to gather evidence related to the rally and the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
