Updating Your Home In 2025

Posted on

If you’re looking to update your home in 2025, there are lots of relatively easy and financially-friendly ways you can give your house or apartment a glow up!

We moved into our forever home last year, as soon as it was liveable, buying it two years ago, and it’s still an on-going process to renovate as it requires so much work. On the plus side, I’ve learnt a lot about what can be done to a house whether that’s big structural changes or small but meaningful tweaks here and tehre that enhance your living space. Read on to find out more about how you can improve your home with ease in 2025 and beyond:

Declutter and Simplify Your Decor

Two things always worth doing in my opinion is to declutter and simplify your decor.  If you have simpler decor, it tends to make a home look clearer and cleaner and decluttering allows you to actually keep it organised and clean. The more stuff you own, the harder it is to tidy and clean or free up space and feel serene. Spend a few weekends or even half an hour each day to work through what you own already, and pack up items for charity, or sell anything you’ve not used in years or that have become surplus to requirements.

When it comes to decor, simpler doesn’t mean you can’t be bold and add colour, texture and pattern to your home, it just means working out how to make your living space feel balanced and relaxing. I opted for rose, pale green, light purple and cream walls for the most part in my home to aid relaxation and act as a ‘blank canvas’ I could add paintings, photographs and wall hangings to personalise and add personality to my house. I’ve also introduced bursts of colour, texture and pattern with home furnishings such as sofas, cushions, blankets and rugs. Take inspiration from Pinterest and do your research before buying and selling. Look at antique shops, charity stores and pre-loved sites for brilliant deals on items you can clean or upcycle. Vinted and Facebook Marketplace are useful when it comes to both buying and selling.

Choose New Materials

Consider new materials in the home be it a new dining table (we’ve opted for granite in our new house) or when it comes to switching up your doors and windows. You could replace one or two internal wooden doors with internal steel doors for example for a modern or even futuristic look. I like combining the modern with the antique in my home so I have reupholstered chaise longues, antique vases and vintage chairs coupled with a sleek and modern kitchen, and bathrooms. The beauty of designing your home is ensuring it suits your taste.

Open Up The Space

Perhaps you’re looking to create a more spacious home? Who isn’t?! By rearranging or replacing furniture including beds, sofas and tables, you can totally transform your living space. Could smaller sofas free up useful space in your lounge for example? Are you using the desk in the nook you initially created for when you work from home but end up on the dining table anyway, so could create a reading corner for your kids instead? Would a single bed in your child’s room rather than a double free up space for a bookshelf, and a desk they can do their homework from? Could attaching TVs to the walls rather than have them standing give you more space? A few small changes can make a big difference.

I hope you’ve found my tips useful.
