According to reports, the petition states that the couple’s marriage was first registered in the United Kingdom in July 1998 and later followed by a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony in Chennai in August 1999. The petition further states that the early years of the marriage were harmonious. However, it alleges that she later discovered that Vijay was involved in a relationship with another actress, which she claims caused emotional distress and strained the marriage.

The filing reportedly states that attempts were made to reconcile on multiple occasions between 2021 and 2025, but these efforts were unsuccessful. In the petition, Sangeetha is said to have requested dissolution of the marriage, permanent alimony, and continuation of residence in the matrimonial home. She has also reportedly sought that court proceedings be conducted privately to maintain confidentiality. The couple has two children.

Following the public circulation of images and videos from the wedding event, producer and critic G. Dhananjheyan shared his views on social media. Without naming any individual, he posted a message referencing the well-known line from the 2002 film Spider-Man: “With great power comes great responsibility.”

In his posts, Dhananjheyan emphasised that public figures with a large following should be mindful of the example they set. He wrote that individuals with significant influence carry a responsibility to demonstrate values that society can respect. He also remarked that family relationships should not be taken for granted and said he felt disturbed by what he described as certain actions by popular actors that might set a negative example.

Dhananjheyan also referred to verses from the classical Tamil text Thirukkural, highlighting leadership qualities such as listening to diverse perspectives, humility in communication, and the importance of being approachable. Dhananjheyan’s posts are now being widely circulated online.
