Good morning. I’ve been thinking, what makes a hero? So, I looked it up.
A hero is someone who has done something brave, new, or good.
Is there someone in your life you look up to? There might be a hero closer than you think.

Last year, I attended my youngest daughter’s preschool graduation. Words were spoken that wiggled in and made a home in my heart.
I feel I should share them with you.
My daughter’s teacher received an award and someone made a short video of her with the kids. Then they played it at the graduation.
The entire video was sweet, but it was the teacher’s “sign off” at the end that touched me.
She spoke softly to the camera about how much she loves her job and adores seeing the kids’ growth. Then she closed with,
“Teachers don’t make much money. They don’t get lots of awards,”
(And with tears flooding her eyes and a hint of defiance in her voice)
“But what we do is important.”
I sat there (trying not to cry in public), thinking about how grateful I am that she spoke these words aloud.
Because she needs her message to be heard in a society that is forgetting.
We revere the social media influencers. And put entertainers on a pedestal.
Athletes and actors make millions. But what about the backbone of our society?
The teachers, nursing home assistants, police officers, street cleaners, parents, and many others who serve, build up, and care for others with all they have. Only to be told they are “less valued” by a society obsessed with material success and fame.
My message today is for the caregivers. And those of you who serve quietly, but with dignity and strength.
Thank you. We see you. You are the heartbeat of humanity.
Your work is important.
And don’t let anyone tell you differently.
National Teacher Appreciation Day and National Nurses Day are both today!
It’s a perfect opportunity to honor two incredible groups who make a profound impact on our lives.
Today, we thank teachers and nurses for their tireless commitment to our communities and their invaluable roles in our lives.
THANK YOU!
Happy Teacher Appreciation Day! 😉
