Why Susan Sarandon’s Cancellation Is So Revealing

The Legacy Media doesn’t actually care about free speech.

Sure, we’ve had a year-plus of stories about fascism, dictatorships and a certain Orange Hitler allegedly clamping down on our First Amendment rights.

Yet the same outlets were conspicuously silent before Donald Trump returned to the Oval Office in 2025.

They ignored or downplayed serial speech attacks from all sides. Here’s just a partial list:

  • Gina Carano fired for an innocuous post pleading for tolerance
  • The Twitter Files silenced conservatives on a major social media platform
  • Sensitivity readers erased passages from iconic authors like Ian Fleming and Agatha Christie
  • Comedians were alternately self-censoring or attempting to cancel their peers
  • Online creators watched their work get censored by Big Tech platforms

That’s just a very partial list. The biggest example of the media’s free speech indifference came with the new Hollywood Blacklist.

Right-leaning actors hide their political views for fear of retribution, and they’ve done so for some time. The Legacy Media cops to the problem repeatedly, either directly or indirectly, but something key is always missing from the coverage.

Outrage. Ominous headlines. Fiery op-eds fighting back against the censorship.

Reporters just don’t care if conservatives lack the same speech rights as everyone else. Not even a little.

Yet we recently watched some major entertainment sites cry foul over Susan Sarandon’s career implosion. The far-Left actress spoke out in the wake of the Oct. 7 atrocities, taking an aggressively pro-Palestinian stance.

She even suggested the monstrous rapes and sexual depravities committed against Israeli women never happened. Tell that to the survivors, or are we not Believing All Women all of a sudden?

For that, she lost her representation and some gigs, she says.

Now, as abhorrent as some of her views may be, it’s a slippery slope to cancel an artist for ghoulish thoughts. Where does it end? Sarandon remains a gifted performer who should be able to thrive in her chosen profession.

Yet Hollywood has been punishing artists for years, from comedians who told “problematic” jokes to anyone suggesting the GOP might have the right solutions to our country’s ills.

And the Legacy Media never batted an eye over those cancellations. In fact, major sites would often recoil when a cancelled star attempted to rebuild his or her career.

Just ask Morgan Wallen. Or Louis C.K.

Yet several key news platforms shared Sarandon’s story, amplifying her suggestion that speech is under attack today.

  • The AV Club
  • The Hollywood Reporter
  • Variety
  • Entertainment Weekly
  • Deadline

The far-Left Variety minimized her original comments, to boot.

“In a place where you feel repression and censorship, to see Spain and to see the president and what he says and the support that he’s giving about Gaza, and to have actors like Javier Bardem come forward with such a strong voice, is so important to us in the United States,” she said.

The censorship she faces, of course, comes from Hollywood. Not The White House.

Just ask Carano, who successfully sued Disney for wrongful termination.

Now, try to find some hand-wringing stories in the Legacy Media about James Woods being thrown out of Hollywood for his political views… or Kevin Sorbo … or Scott Baio … or Matthew Marsden.

We’ll wait.

Those conservative stars don’t get Legacy Media attention because those outlets aren’t the least bit upset about their cancellations.
