5 Beauty Confidence-Boosters For The Over 40s

Life begins at 40 and it literally did for me as I grew a whole new life at 40, having my third baby, Florence, 5 days before turning 41.

With pregnancy at any time, confidence can wane and whilst the first year felt like a foggy haze, I did start taking small tentative steps to boost my confidence once Florence became a toddler.

Below, I share 5 beauty confidence-boosters which helped me in my 40s.

1. Lip blush and eyebrow microblading.
2. Botox and filler.
3. Laser hair removal.
4. Teeth whitening top-up.
5. Eyelash growth gel.

Lip blush and eyebrow microblading made a big difference and lasted 2 years in my case. Involving 2 sessions per area, these areas were essentially tattooed, offering a naturally fuller brow and more defined lips. Having this done has meant not requiring make up on those areas and I look like my eyebrows are filled and I’m wearing lipstick every day. These do need topping up after 1-3 years so I’m due more sessions now.

I was initially nervous to try Botox and filler but at 43, I decided to try anti-wrinkle treatments first then filler and I have the former 2-3 times a year. I added some filler into my lips where they had deflated with age as is often the case but opted for a natural look for both. Botox is placed high up in my hairline so my eyebrows don’t drop and I still have lots of expression. I like that Botox prevents future wrinkles too. It’s painless and works quickly on me. I have it in several areas in my forehead, eyes and I love a lip flip too as my smile was a teeny bit gummy on one side and this prevents any gums from showing when I smile or laugh.

Laser is something I wish I’d done years ago. Limiting shaving and  lasting for many years, this really is a brilliant treatment which has meant swimming is far more stress-free!

Teeth whitening is something I embraced years ago and felt it was instantly and dramatically transformative. Despite having pretty white teeth, achieving a brighter and whiter smile gave me an immediate confidence-boost. I use Novon’s whitening products via my dentist who moulded my teeth creating custom gum shields for the best coverage.

Eyelash and brow growth gel has rapidly grown my lashes, and my eyebrows have fewer gaps too thanks to it. Having reacted to other gels historically, the only brand I’ll use is Grande Lash Enhancing Serum which works perfectly with my sensitive skin and I experienced visible results within weeks. Incredible!
